Face-Off For Autism
ShinnyUSA and Devereux Pennsylvania partner to host the Face-Off For Autism, a one-day adult hockey tournament for the benefit of Devereux’s Community Adult Autism Partnership Program. The tournament is hosted annually. Games are played in a Shinny-style format, with each team playing four 30-minute, running clock games. There are no referees and no playoffs. Winners are determined by points accumulated during the four regulation games. As with all ShinnyUSA events, the focus is less on the hockey, and more on the camaraderie in the hockey community, and using hockey to give something back.
In 1996, the Centers for Disease Control estimated that 1 in 294 children were diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Today, the CDC estimates that 1 in 68 children have some form of autism. Autism presents lifelong challenges, but together we can help improve the lives of adults with autism in our community. By playing in and supporting the Face-Off for Autism, you will help build a scholarship fund that will allow more adults with autism to be served by Devereux’s Community Adult Autism Partnership Program (CAAPP). CAAPP supports teenagers and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders to enhance access to work, community, social inclusion, and higher education. Because there is limited public funding for adults with autism, most families struggle financially to support their adult children with autism who still have significant needs.
The 2018 tournament will be held the weekend of April 28th, 2018 at Ice Line in West Chester. In 2016, we increased the number of participating teams 32 teams, and in 2018, the Face-Off For Autism will be combined with the Independence Cup Classic over the weekend of May 12th-14th, with the Face-Off For Autism tournament being held on Saturday May 13th. If you have a team interested in enrolling in this year’s tournament, please contact our Tournament Director Dave Lane at email@example.com. We’d be glad to have your team join us for this fun and worthy event. To date we have raised over $80,000 each year to help adults with autism acquire the critical supports and services that will enable them to find and keep employment, as well as lead happy and productive lives.
Even if you don’t play hockey, you can still join ShinnyUSA and Devereux in our commitment to support adults with autism as a sponsor of the annual Face Off for Autism Hockey Tournament. As a sponsor, there are numerous recognition opportunities but, more importantly, your support will help change lives. With your commitment, more adults with autism and their families can experience more hopeful and fulfilling lives. In 2014, our sponsorship opportunities were as follows:
|Includes: Placement of company logo on tournament T-Shirts// full page ad in event program// presentation of sponsor during luncheon// 2 tickets to the luncheon|

All proceeds go to the Bridge Scholarship Fund, which provides community-based supports (for employment and community/social inclusion) to adults with autism who have no or limited funding for services. These funds will be used specifically to provide services to help individuals find and maintain employment, as well as to increase their abilities to live independently and to be connected with others socially. If you are interested in being a sponsor for this year’s event, or if you have any questions, please feel free to contact either Dave Lane at firstname.lastname@example.org or Todd Harris from Devereux Pennsylvania at email@example.com.
