Joining Shinny USA

·

There has recently been an increase in fellow ice hockey enthusiasts looking to join Shinny USA. First of all, thank you for showing interest in our organization! However, we are membership-based and cannot accommodate players showing up at rinks without first signing up. The good news is that signing up is easy and can be done right here on our website. For more information on how Shinny USA works, how to sign up, and information on the rinks at which we play, keep reading below.

Membership Based Organization

While we would love to accommodate everyone who wants to play with us, we plan for certain numbers of players to arrive based on membership. If you want to sign up for Shinny, know that we function in bi-monthly seasons year-round. The six seasons are as follows, but you can be added at any time as a new member.

Adult Hockey League Sign Up
  • January/February
  • March/April
  • May/June
  • July/August
  • September/October
  • November/December

Structuring Shinny into shorter seasons like this has three main benefits: It provides a stable framework, it’s not a long-term commitment unless you want it to be, and it makes it easy for new members to join without waiting half a year or more if they miss the deadline. If you miss signing up for any given season, you can join the next season in two months or less.

Signing up for Shinny USA is Easy

Signing up for Shinny is as easy as filling out our sign-up form. First, you’ll have to give us all the standard information, such as your name, date of birth, email, address, and phone number. Then let us know what the highest level you’ve played ice hockey at is, what you would rate your skill level, and which of our programs you’re interested in. It’s important that you answer the questions about your experience and skill honestly so that we can match you up with similarly skilled players when possible.

Once you have filled out the sign-up form, we’ll reach out to you either via email or phone to confirm your membership and give you more information about when and where to show up.

Rink Information

Ice hockey comaraderie

We operate at seven rinks around the greater Philadelphia area, located in West Chester, Aston, Havertown, Oaks, Colmar, Wilmington, and University City. While our time on the ice begins at 6:00AM at most locations, the days of the week we are active vary between them.

Ice Line – West Chester, PA

Ice Line in West Chester is one of the larger locations at which we operate. It has four rinks, so we generally split players up by skill level and have four games going on at the same time. This allows for newer players to move from lower to higher-skilled rinks as they progress which keeps things challenging and fun. The fun begins at 6:00AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Ice Works – Aston, PA

Ice Works is the other large location at which we operate. Like Ice Line, it has four rinks, which means four games based on skill level are generally going on at once, and players can always find new challenges to meet. The festivities also begin at 6:00AM, but we only meet at this location on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Skatium – Havertown, PA

Skatium in Havertown, and the rest of the rinks on this list, is smaller than both Ice Line and Ice Works. It only has one rink, which means players of all skill levels are matched up together. We meet at this location at 6:00AM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Center Ice – Oaks, PA

never too old for rec league hockey

Center Ice is a one-rink location in Oaks, PA. Players of all skill levels play together at this location, which leads to a number of benefits. Experienced players get a more relaxed setting, and new players are given the opportunity to grow. We meet at 6:00AM on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

Hatfield Ice World – Colmar, PA

Hatfield Ice World is a one-rink location in Colmar which mixes players of all skill levels like all one-rink locations. This creates an even more laid-back atmosphere focused on teaching newer players the ropes. We meet at Hatfield Ice World at 6:00AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Skating Club of Wilmington – Wilmington, DE

The only location in Delaware at which we are currently active is the Skating Club of Wilmington. This one-rink location is perfect for players of all skill levels and experience. We meet at the Skating Club of Wilmington at 6:00AM on Saturdays.

Class of 23 Rink at University of Pennsylvania – Philadelphia, PA

The single rink at the University of Pennsylvania’s Class of 1923 Arena is only available between September and March. This location is perfect for those who want to hit the ice before heading to work in downtown Philadelphia. Unlike the other locations, we meet here at 5:35AM on Fridays.

For more information about the locations at which we operate, including directions on how to get to them, visit our locations page.
